Ernie Ball Music Man Bongo 5

  Candy Red Bongo 5

After the Aggie Bongo left for Kansas, I found myself without a single humbucker Bongo fiver.

This is no way to live,
am I right?

Of course I am.

So I called up Scotty Ball and I
said, "Scotty, build me a bass.
And not just a bass - I think I'll
have a Candy Red Bongo 5
with a single humbucker, please."

Being an agreeable sort of person, and remaining aware that I'd also pay the bill, he did just that.

Brand new from the factory as of May 2006, it quickly became my
go-to bass in Cowpilot.

At my 50th Birthday Bash, sponsored by my friend Sterling
Ball (and Ernie Ball Music Man instruments, which I play exclusively), Cowpilot opened for "Biff Baby's All Stars",
which we had no business doing but it seemed like a good
idea at the time.  But it was fun, even though looking out into
the audience was kind of scary at times.  (Chuck Rainey
and Dave LaRue were watching me play bass - weird.)

Before the show, during the show and most certainly after
the show, there was great revelry and I believe we had
some drinks.  (Not Sterling - he's clean these days.)  And
we were up around the stage and I began to think it would
be a great idea if certain people signed my bass.

Hey, it was my birthday!  It was a good crowd!  And
Tom Elliot had a silver Sharpie!  It was destiny.

So the bass was signed by:

1.  Sterling Ball (owner of EBMM)
2.  Scott Ball (the infamous Dargie)
3.  Tony Spinner (often with Toto)
4.  Derek Brooks (artist relations, EBMM)
5.  Dudley Gimpel (genius designer, EBMM)
6.  Steve Lukather (do I need to explain Luke?)
7.  Dave LaRue (scary bassist, good dude)
8.  John Ferarro   (famous drummer)

And later by my wife and child.  I eventually retired
the bass, but it was just too good to not play, so
it's back...even if the signatures are wearing off.

It's a bass!  I have to play it!
