Purple Musicman Stingray Five

Although it looks sort of black in these photos, the bass is absolutely and unequivocally purple - thus its nickname, "the Graperay". And look at all the knobs! This is due to the inclusion of the piezo pickup, located in the bridge saddles. A big thank you to my faithful servant Patsy (okay, Patrick) for the trade in March of 03.

With the untimely death by trade of Heinz the Wonder Bass, the Graperay became my "go-to" bass when I need a fiver - and sometimes even when I didn't. The piezo seems to add a bit of "air" to the classic Stingray sound. I've heard it said that it approximates sort of a standup bass tone...I don't think so, really, but it does take some edge off that big, growly humbucker. This is an extremely versatile bass.

This one went to Sausage Fingers Romano in September of 2003 when I realized I had a number of Stingray 5s but was temporarily out of Sterlings. The White Sparkle Sterling came from PJR - thanks, Coyote!
