 1979 Musicman Stingray

In August of 2002, this bass came to Camp Bovine from Tim Sarter in a trade that
sent him the now infamous Purple Haze Jazz bass. I still get grief from Steve Barr
about how I stole this bass from under his very nose, heh heh. (For the record, after
all he's done for me, I would gladly have let him have it and he knows this.)

I kept this bass for about six months. It was all original except the finish had been
sanded off - might have been white at some point. You hear people talk about the
magical tone of certain pre-EB Stingrays, and this one definitely had it. Took it out
to jam and it sounded major-league fat in a live mix. Then, in January of 2003, I
got all hot for some damned old orange Stingray and this one went to Mark
Butler in a convoluted deal that brought me the Orange Stingray.
